History

Don Bluth animated Dirk the Daring's deaths for Dragon's Lair, and the 1983 laserdisc only lets a joystick pick the next scene. Daphne waits in a castle the player never walks freely, because the cabinet is playing film, not a simulated body.

A late sword swing or a missed jump cuts to a filmed Dirk dying on that disc. The scene then resumes only if the chosen path was the one the animators drew.

The NES cartridge reuses Dirk's name and then asks for ordinary jumps and swings. Anyone waiting for Bluth's filmed timing will not find that laserdisc inside the cart.
