History

Button-mashing dashes and a long jump share Track & Field, Konami's Olympic button-hammer known in Japan as Hyper Olympic. The 100-meter run asks for speed on the buttons, and the javelin asks for an angle a moment later.

Konami's arcade events date to 1983, from hurdles to the hammer throw. The controller takes a beating, and the on-screen athlete is only as fast as the taps.

Home versions, the NES one included, kept that rapid tapping. Hyper Olympic is the Japanese name, and the Western box is Track & Field for the same button-driven meet.
