History

Prince of Sablé leaves on a rescue and spends much of Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru in the body of a frog. Nintendo and Intelligent Systems released the Game Boy cartridge in Japan in 1992. English-speaking players took to calling it For the Frog the Bell Tolls. The team that made it later made Link's Awakening.

The frog shape is a way through the land, not only a curse to cure. It reaches gaps and landings the prince cannot manage on two legs, so the transformation opens the map. People in the towns still address him as royalty on an errand, even while he travels low to the ground. Fights stay close and brief beside that exploration.

Nintendo published the script in Japanese and never issued an English edition. The cartridge remains an official Nintendo release, sold in Japan through ordinary channels. Readers abroad coined the bell-and-frog nickname from the meaning of the title, and that nickname does not push the product off to the side.

Intelligent Systems and Nintendo folded the prince, the changed body, and a compact set of towns into one quest. Link's Awakening, from that same team afterward, shares the taste for a small world with an unusual condition at its center. The earlier game is the one where the useful body is the frog.
