Two years pass inside Unova before Pokemon Black 2 begins. Game Freak and Nintendo had not previously built a paired edition as a direct sequel, and this DS follow-up to Black is that sequel, not a remake.
The new protagonists walk a changed region in 2012. Kyurem's fusion is the threat the two-year gap was building. Kyurem's fusion plot, Pokestar Studios, and the Pokemon World Tournament sit on top of a map players of Black already knew.
White 2 is the partner version. Black 2's towns remember the earlier Plasma crisis instead of pretending the first Unova journey never happened.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
