History

Capcom added custom combos to Street Fighter Alpha 2, a prequel series set before Street Fighter II. Fill the gauge, then spend it on a free-form chain that does not follow the old target-combo limits.

The arcade release is from 1996, with Alpha counters and a returning Sakura among the cast. Air blocking and the custom gauge are the systems players were learning on top of hadoukens they already knew.

The Super Nintendo port is a late, dense conversion of that arcade fighter. It arrives near the end of the console's life, still trying to hold those custom strings on a pad.
