History

Hudson's story mode in Super Bomberman 2 is about capturing the bomber, on a 1994 Super Nintendo maze cart. Multitap matches remain the reason people kept the cartridge after the rescue plot was finished.

Bombs still blast along a grid and kick down a corridor. The captivity plot gives the single-player side a villain and a cage, which a pure battle mode never needed.

Four-player taps were the living-room habit. The story of the captured bomber is the single-player excuse; the multitap is why the cart stayed plugged in.
