History

Manhattan sidewalks and a raised city host Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project, Konami's NES brawler that is not a port of the arcade game. The turtles fight through the city instead of repeating the coin-op's stages.

Konami built that story for the NES in 1991, and Shredder's plot uses a Manhattan setting original to this cart. The punches resemble earlier brawls, but the city stages are not the coin-op's route.

It does not copy the arcade route that a different cartridge had already ported. The Manhattan Project's city stages are their own brawler.
