History

Jerry crosses side-view rooms while Tom tries to catch him in Tom & Jerry: The Ultimate Game of Cat and Mouse! The MGM cartoon's chase is the whole plot, with the mouse solving a path and the cat acting as the hazard. Household props, from furniture to thrown objects, change how a room is crossed.

The NES chase dates to 1991, and Jerry is the one the player steers through the house. Tom's grab ends the attempt when the mouse is cornered behind the furniture.

It is a cartoon license built as a side-view pursuit, not a versus match where both animals are equal fighters. The title's claim is the chase itself.
