Alex and Ryan spend recovered cash on stats and food in River City Ransom, Technos' open-town brawler. Mall shops sell burgers and books that raise punch power, and gangs fill the streets between those shops.
It sits in the same family as Double Dragon, yet it plays closer to a small role-playing quest. The town can be wandered, and the last boss is reached by getting stronger, not by surviving one corridor.
The 1989 release lets two players cooperate through that town. Coins dropped by students are the economy, and a meal matters as much as a new pair of shoes.
