History

Will Wright's SimCity, from Maxis in 1989, is a city builder about zoning, power, and disasters that started on computers. Residential, commercial, and industrial zones grow only when the wires and the roads reach them.

Nintendo later published an NES port and a richer Super Nintendo edition. That Super Nintendo version adds a Bowser attack among its disasters and an advisor named Dr. Wright, beside the fires and floods the computer game already knew.

The mayor never walks the streets as a brawling hero. Taxes, power plants, and a monster downtown are the decisions, and a blackout undoes a block faster than a park repairs it.
