Axel Stone, Adam Hunter, and Blaze Fielding walk the street in Streets of Rage, Sega's 1991 side-scrolling brawler that began on the Genesis. Mr. X runs the syndicate, and Virtual Console later reissued the game on Wii and Nintendo 3DS.
A special move burns health to clear a crowd, and the weapons on the pavement are worth picking up. The Genesis original is Bare Knuckle in Japan, with the same three fighters and the same boss.
Virtual Console on Wii and 3DS is a reissue of that Genesis brawler. It is the first street, not the sequels that added new partners.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
