History

Michelangelo is the only brother still loose when Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: Radical Rescue begins, and Konami built the 1993 Game Boy game around freeing the rest. Leonardo, Raphael, and Donatello become playable as he reaches them, each with a way through the fortress the others lack. The map pushes backward as often as forward, because a newly freed turtle opens a passage already walked past.

Spinning nunchaku let Michelangelo hang over gaps and spikes. Leonardo drills cracked floors with his swords, Raphael withdraws into his shell to fit tight tunnels, and Donatello climbs walls toward exits that were out of reach. Swapping among them is how a locked corridor becomes a route.

Shredder's Foot hold Splinter and April as well as the brothers. Soldiers fill the space between keys and cells, and the fighting itself stays direct so the puzzle can be which body crosses the next obstacle. Konami expects the select screen of rescued turtles to matter more than a longer combo.

This is not the NES tournament fighter, where the brothers duel one another, and it is not Turtles in Time. The Game Boy chapter is a rescue with backtracking and a fortress that opens only in a certain order. Four abilities, not four identical fighters, are what make the rooms solvable.
