History

Ryu Hayabusa closes Tecmo's NES trilogy in Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom (1991) already. Cinema-style scenes still play between stages, the format the series used to tell his story.

The ship of the subtitle is the destination, reached through wall jumps, pits, and armed corridors. His sword and a small stock of lives are the tools, and a missed jump is usually fatal.

The US cartridge is stricter about continues than the Japanese one. That continue limit is what players cite when they compare the two releases of the same ship.
