Shin Kazama flies for a mercenary air force in U.N. Squadron, Capcom's side-scrolling shooter based on the manga Area 88. You pick a pilot and buy planes with mission pay on this 1991 Super Nintendo release. The airfield belongs to hired guns, not to a national parade.
Each pilot handles differently, so the seat you choose changes the sortie. Money from a clear can buy a faster airframe or a stronger gun. Area 88 supplies the premise: pilots who fight for pay in someone else's war.
Shin Kazama is the central pilot from that manga, and he is one of the selectable seats. Other aces fill the remaining choices. The shop between missions matters as much as the dodge pattern in the air.
Capcom built both the scrolling attacks and the purchase loop. The plane you bought is the build you bring to the next wave. Readers of the manga will know the mercenary squadron; the shop explains itself either way.
