History

Stardroids, alien robots rather than the familiar robot masters, are the bosses to clear in Mega Man V (1994). Capcom published the Game Boy cartridge and Minakuchi Engineering developed it, the last classic-style Mega Man on that handheld. Terra leads the invasion, and the Mega Arm throws a returning fist in place of the ordinary buster charge.

Defeat a Stardroid and its weapon joins the menu, preserving the habit of hunting the tool that hurts the next foe. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto hold stretches of the planet, chosen from a select screen. A later upgrade lets the flying fist grab and pummel, which matters when a normal shot skids off alien armor.

Sunstar, a doomsday machine, waits after those planet bosses, and Doctor Wily cannot keep control of it. Tango the robotic cat comes along as a new helper while the Stardroids occupy the cities. Minakuchi Engineering drew original routes for this roster instead of replaying NES robot-master stages.

The classic Game Boy formula closes on an extraterrestrial lineup and a throwing arm. Later handheld Mega Man stories leave this select-a-boss structure for other kinds of play. Here you still pick a target, cross the stage, and leave with the weapon.
