Occupied panels have to be won back one square at a time in Mega Man Battle Network 5, Capcom's 2004 pair sold as Team ProtoMan and Team Colonel. Each cartridge fields a different party of Navis for those operations. Lan and MegaMan remain the leads, while the allies standing on the map change with the version in the slot.
A liberation mission behaves more like a small tactics board than an ordinary chip duel. You step across darkened panels, free them, and only then confront the Navi holding the zone. Item cubes and enemy placements turn that advance into a route.
ProtoMan's roster and Colonel's roster do not match, which is why two carts were sold. A Navi's temperament shows up in the mission that Navi leads and in the chips that arrive with the alliance. The other version's team cannot be menu-swapped into your save.
Beneath the grid objectives, Capcom kept folders, row movement, and timed buster shots. Mail, keys, and distress calls in the city point toward the next liberation.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
First developer on the RAWG card: Capcom.
