Nintendo's licensed cartridge Tetris (1989) is the one that remained after the Tengen lawsuit. Alexey Pajitnov's falling blocks are here, but this cart is the official Nintendo edition, not his original computer design.
Tetrominoes drop in a well, and a line vanishes when it fills. The unlicensed Tengen cart was pulled off shelves, which is why players were left holding Nintendo's well.
It is distinct both from Pajitnov's original and from that pulled cart. Rotation, a rising drop speed, and the official license are what separate this cartridge from the one that disappeared.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
