Status effects replace death in Wario Land 3. A flattened Wario still rolls into the next door. A crush, a burn, or a flatten does not end the run; it changes Wario's body so a new path through the level can open.
Nintendo's Game Boy Color puzzle-platformer, released in 2000, cares more about those transformations than about a score attack. Treasures hidden behind the right status are the goals, and a golf mini-interruption is not the point of the map.
Going back into an earlier stage with a new weakness is progress. The music-box treasures stay locked until the correct crushed, snowball, or bouncing form can reach them.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
