A Tanooki tail and stereoscopic depth showcase Super Mario 3D Land. Nintendo's 2011 platformer was an early demonstration of the 3DS.
The tail spin breaks blocks and slows a fall, while the stereoscopic picture separates a pit from a platform in front of the face. Flagpoles, Boom Boom, and a second set of harder stages extend the postcard worlds.
The early-showcase role matters because the hardware's depth effect is part of the jump. Tanooki flight and the binocular staging are the handheld's Mario pitch.
Same series is the tight name match. Same franchise is the wider family. Same platform is other games on the systems named above.
